The Mystery Within
Recorded in Grace Cathedral by Edie Hartshorne
and Janet Bray, this recording from Sacred Arts represents a significant
expression of new possibilities in sacred music. Bringing together instruments
used for centuries in meditation, and presenting the music in the sacred space
of the Cathedral, the deepest resonance of the Divine expressed in sound comes
clearly alive. This music is highly meditative and reflective: "It is our
intent to sound from the heart, and thus maintain one-pointed attention with
breath, resonance, and tone." Tibetan bowls, ocarina (also called huaca
in the Andes, meaning "breath of spirit"), Japanese koto, and long bamboo
flutes. A direct-to-digital recording, and therefore extremely clear. Fingers
can be heard lifting from the bamboo flutes.
